Medical Direction Course Requirement

CMD Initial certification, Step One General Eligibility requirements include completion of a course on medical direction in long-term care medicine that covers the body of knowledge for a medical director in post-acute and long-term care settings.  AMDA - The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine provides a course entitled "Core Curriculum on Medical Direction in Post-Acute and Long-term Care" which meets the general education eligibility requirement.  You can learn more about the Core Curriculum course from AMDA at http://www.paltc.org/core-curriculum-medical-direction-post-acute-and-long-term-care. Consideration of equivalent medical direction courses must be submitted to the ABPLM Board of Directors in advance of completion of coursework through an Individualized Education Program (IEP).  See the initial certification application for details on core curriculum content areas.

Here's what one Core Curriculum participant said about the course:

“The Core Curriculum provides education about PALTC that I did not get from medical school, residency, or fellowship. It is specific to better navigating the complex clinical and administrative challenges in the nursing home. AMDA's education is very high yield and relevant to my practice in the nursing home and as medical director."
